Hi all,
I'm a complete newbie to all this, but managed to upgrade my Galaxy Tab 2 10.1" to Nougat (7.1) at the weekend with a lot of help from posts on here and good old YouTube.
I am wondering if there is a customer ROM for Oreo on this tablet? Can't see anything obvious in the specific forum, but thought I'd ask just in case I missed something.
Or is there a reason why it wouldn't run anything higher than Nougat?
Many thanks.

I've heard that the custom ROM community is kinda dying out, unfortunately. I've given up on the idea of this thing getting Android 11 or GNU/Linux, so I'm using it airgapped now.

Maybe the device cannot support oreo. And the hardware is pretty old. But this tablet still handles android 4.4.4 really well

If yes then:
  1. Download and install rashr but do not open it https://m.apkpure.com/root-rashr-flash-tool/de.mkrtchyan.recoverytools
  2. install kingroot https://kingroot.cn.uptodown.com/android and follow tutorial
  3. download the following files to PC and Transfer these to your tab. It must be directly under the Internal Storage folder but not under any sub-folders like dcim, downloads etc. You should have an message that has option to transfer files when clicked in notifications. https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1395089523397959660and this https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=8889791610682876959
  4. Open rashr, click grant root access, click on 'Recovery from storage, select GT-P5100_TWRP_3.3.0-2.img
  5. click on reboot recovery.
  6. You will face a black screen and after 5-20 minutes or so it will eventually boot into TWRP.
  7. select wipe and factory reset
  8. Select flash and only one file appearing is lineage-14.1-20200623-espresso3g.zip. select it and swipe to flash
  9. reboot and done. after 1-30 minutes it will boot up. You can now watch youtube. This is meant for daily use but not meant for gaming.

holy ****, thank you so much, ill try it one of these days, does netflix, amazon or hbo works?
Maybe but you will still have a lot time loading as this is a Dual core device-do not expect too much. You can download them unofficially by searching ' <app name> apk' on Google and download the file

this is where the legendary android 8 port began.
    from humble roots.
wish i knew more about android development to do this kinda thing.
i have already built roms in the past, but that was just using stuff around github.
well done honestly, this is impressive!

I still cant understand why cant we build oreo? is it coz of 3.0 kernel? we have 3.4 and 3.8 kernels for tab 2 as well so whats the issue
Nope G S II I9100 have Android 11 on top of 3.0.101 kernel, maybe we jump to 11 and see if the tab will explode on boot. We may need some graphic blobs.

This is a very rare way of updating from of stock..KingRoot is MALWARE should never be used maybe for chinese crap devices , the story is simple , put the tab in downloadmode and flash twrp , go into twrp and flash the rom after a format data , ROOT is totally not needed and is more a open door to hackers .
root itself isnt exactly open to hackers, its still pretty secure (magisk).
then again, to install this rom, you absolutely do not need root, and kingroot is absolute garbage of an app, and as you say, should only be used for cheap chinese devices.
but yeah i basically agree with your point, just wanted to clear some things up about rooting, since it isnt that insecure (although its not as secure, since theres still the fact that you have a daemon running as root and any app that manages to somehow hijack it or spoof itself successfully can get root, but this isnt trivial with modern root like magisk, as i mentioned earlier).
