hold down the volume down button and the home button at the same time, and then insert the power cord (the other end must be inserted into the computer's usb port)
then press the volume up button

That's a link to a file and not an how-to.

Did you mean post #31? But that's for an older firmware I suppose.

my phone keeps booting into safe mode when holding volume down and home, instead of showing any warning or download mode screen.
bootloader is unlocked, usb debugging enabled.
what am i doing wrong?

EDIT: understood what i did wrong there, cable should only be connected while already holding down the buttons

now i am stuck at step D of the process from the linked method for the A10
Odin download passed, phone got the patched AP and BL without vbmeta
however, when exiting download mode, before letting me into Recovery mode it applies an update, screen shows as the same blue as the download mode screen
when i wipe the device and boot it up from the recovery mode screen it remains without root

EDIT2: tried it with auto reboot enabled in odin, it worked
installed magisk and device control, started disabling apps, then the phone locked itself after i disabled the payment service
i tried flashing it again, but it refused taking anything other than its standard software, displaying KG State prenormal
got around the issue by setting up the standard software offline with the default 2019 date, then the OEM unlock option appeared again, grayed out and enabled, after connecting to the network.
flashed it again, now it works, except payment service is enabled, and the phone believes to only have 16GB of storage, almost 11 of which are filled

still at the same spot as at the end of the previous post, except rebooting the phone gets rid of root

is there any way to make the phone recognize its full storage and automatically boot into the rooted os, or even clear out any traces of the default restricted os?

Enter the download mode while pressing the buttons AND connect the cable at the same time. After that flash the root-AP. It will work with the newest firmware.
If you want to restore your original firmware make sure you flash the right region code. Otherwise it might fail.
