Peek cards are back in Android Wear 2.x

Android Wear 2.0 brought a number of improvements, but a few useful features also got removed, which many of us missed. The Bubble Cloud watch face restores the following:(click on the listed items to see a video on how to setup)
Peek cards
The top, most recent notification appears at the bottom of the screen. You can swipe it away, and it will not show up until another notification comes in.
You can also swipe up on the watch face to reveal the peek card.
And you can tap on it to view the expanded notification.

The Bubble Cloud watch face displays long-text type complications in the peek card:
You can add it to your watch face using the "add complication" button, but you will need to select "Peek card" to show long text complication providers.
The most obvious choice is the "Notification Preview" under General.

I think peek cards are much more practical for long text than dedicating a constant big area of the screen:
  • it is more noticeable, but can be hidden to clear your watch face
  • you can choose whether you also want it in ambient mode: I even made the icon oled burn in safe
  • with the +/- you can set its transparency: the watch face can show through behind it
  • we are not limited to the white color
  • but there is something even better: if you make the card color change based on the color of the notification icon, you will be able to tell notifications apart with just a glance.

Just like the bubbles, press and hold the notification card to manage it: this is where you can disable the peek cards by deleting this long text watch face complication.

NOTES ON PEEK CARDS
► Vertical swipes still toggle between active/inactive, but you first have to show/hide the peek card: so getting to your actual notifications might require 3 up swipes. Not ideal, but I haven't found a better way yet.
► Tapping the outside of the analog watch face will still send the watch hands behind the bubbles, but if there is a peek card, it will be behind all
► The peek card can also contain frequently updated information (stopwatch, countdown timer etc.) It works as other complications
► Long pressing the peek card lets you edit it, similar to bubbles. The icon is square and the controls are slightly modified. See all settings above.
► The peek card follows screen rotation if you have it set in Expert settings, but with the following limitations: A) they don't show on rotated ambient screen B) you will have to swipe perpendicular to the card (original vertical) to show/hide
► "Clock only" ambient mode will still show the peek card but no other bubbles
► Ambient dimming also dims the card (we couldn't dim the peek card in Android Wear 1.5)
► The card transparency setting affects both active and ambient peek cards
► The ambient peek card is always black with white text, and a mesh is applied to the icon (see screenshot!) to prevent screen burn in for prolonged showing the same notification
► Black/White text color choice follows the same logic, the recently added text color control also affects the peek card
► Title line on peek card is intentionally not bold to prevent burn-in
► Peek card settings are only available on the watch (I don't plan to include them in the phone app), but they are backed up and restored together with all other watch settings (Wear Cloud Editor → Backup)
► The peek card counts as a watch face complication (it is). Since you can only have one watch face complication in the FREE version, free users will have to chose between complication bubble and peek card
► When editing settings on the watch the preview also shows the peek card, touches are inhibited similar to the other bubbles, but you can still swipe up/down to show/hide the card from the preview.
► Of course you can add any other LONG TEXT type of watch complication, Agenda/next event, Google/Weather, General/Now playing sound to be other good choices. However you can only have one long-text complication at a time, a new selection replaces the previous.

Unfortunately I've had to cut reddit out of my life, I spent too much time on it. Anyway I have a question about battery life. I'm trying to optimize bubble cloud. It's draining my battery just a little more than I had hoped. About 4-5% per hour, I was hoping to cut it down to like 2-3. Anyway, I don't use the analog face but here's my backup of my setup. This is the only way I can think of to ask for this advice.

Before bubble cloud I had the watch going for the whole day and charge overnight but still have like 30-40% when I went to bed but now I'm having to put it on charge a couple hours before I'm going to bed. I'm not using the watch more than I used to but at the same time I'm still new to this launcher and want to optimize it.
My main goal of getting bubble cloud was to have more than the limit of 8 complications on my watchface. Not tons more but like 2 or 3 more. And I liked bubble cloud enough to buy the premium and the notification add on, it works great so far.
(So you and only you know who I am, I was the one that emailed about adding support for Google messages when getting a notification and asking about the heart rate bubble not working) btw with the internal testing update it's still not working but it's okay I'm not really worried about that.
:) Yes, I know who you are :)

Your best bet is to enable overlay mode. It is much better on battery, and everything works smoother with it.

I know we no longer can hide the system warning, Samsung and Google doesn't allow anymore, but if you are using Bubble Cloud's notification system, the permanent system notification is hopefully a manageable problem. I have just played with the official release of Wear OS 3.2 in the emulator, unfortunately Google is also removing the possibility to hide this system warning in their next version of the OS. I have a possible idea to work around the system warning, I will test it when I get my watch back from warranty repair.

When in overlay mode, you can turn off wrist/crown gestures under "More options", which can save you a bit of extra battery.

I recommend using Bubble Cloud's built in Live Info bubbles instead of external complications, they are better optimized. We have step count, date, even weather. Make sure to remove the faulty samsung heart rate and calendar complications, they will cause unneccessary battery drain until I get to fix them. Are you on 10.09.5 and the heart rate still not working? I will really need my watch to be able to sort these out :(

Without overlays there is a big overhead starting the active watch face. I am also looking into it to see if anything can be optimized regarding the non-overlay mode. For better battery in non-overlay mode you should set Touch Control Priority to Standard Wear OS, to reduce activations of the active watch face.

I'm on 10.09.5 and already had overlay enabled, and heart rate still not working. I don't have an issue with the bubble permanent notification.

Please check wrist/crown gestures too. That might help push down the battery use. And make sure to use OLED friendly colors, especially in always on mode (AOD). Do you use AOD? Could you email me (or post here) screenshot or photo of your current watch face both in active and AOD?

I just want to be able to tap a button from inside bubble cloud when viewing a message and go to Google messages app on my watch and see more of the Convo

That's on my todo list

No aod ever. It's night for me and in a dark room and the brightness is low but doesn't look it.
That looks as OLED friendly as it gets. But many of your complications could be replaced with LiveInfo variants: battery, date, steps. They'd save you a ton of battery, plus you can attach any app to them, tapping the date could open your favorite calendar app, or the step count could take you to samsung health... Besides these if you already disabled wrist/crown gestures there is not much else I can recommend.

Alright I changed some of them but once they're set as liveinfo I can't customize the icon and use gauges, rings, colors and stuff, can I change that somehow? I like the battery having the ring
That's true. Please see how much more battery you get this way and decide which is worth more :)Adding gauge options for LiveInfo is on my todo list, though not on the short term.

If I get better battery life, I'm content. I honestly really only use my watch to keep track of my steps, walking workout whenever I go walking, heart rate for logs to see later, time, and seeing notifications and replying to text messages without getting my phone out of my pocket, checking battery life on both my watch and phone and checking temps/feels like temps occasionally throughout the day, and now that I have an option for it, I can silence my phone without getting it out of my pocket too. I feel like I'm a simple guy lol

Btw can we change how often complications or liveinfo bubbles update? If I could set the temps to only update every hour that could save battery, right?
The weather bubble does update only once every hour. The step count every 5-10 minutes (as opposed to the regular step count complication which might update after every step). The battery is not polled regularly, instead along a smart prediction sampling, which can mean 1/20th of the updates necessary. I take battery life very seriously and with my Live Info bubbles I made the watch face very battery friendly.

Then came Google with their wasteful complication system, some complications update every minute (or every second in some extreme cases!) for no benefit to the user. I do some analyzation and optimization in the way I update the watch face, but using standard complications is wasteful.

To tell the truth I have both the TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra and the Galaxy Watch 4, but even when my GW4 is not in in repair I tend to use the TicWatch because of its superior battery life. No matter what I do with my watch (including full LTE autonomy, this watch will last at least 24 hours, but in every day use well over 2 days. The only way to kill its battery in a day is to GPS track a hike while constantly on LTE. That way the TicWatch gets killed in 12-14 hours. The Galaxy Watch is pretty, and its sensors are more diverse and accurate, but if you want worry free battery, get the GW5 Pro or the TWP3 for less than half the GW5P's price.

Now that I switched most of my bubbles to liveinfo, only ones I left as complications are my sound toggle which syncs with my phone, and the phone battery bubble with find my phone attached to it. I'm finding a lot less battery drain, it's about the same as it was before, maybe a touch more drain than before but barely noticeable. Ended the day yesterday at 20%, quite content with that. And that was with extra tinkering on the watch too. So that leaves me enough for a really long day at most and I'm good with that. Thanks dev! You rock!
Amazing news! Enjoy your watch! (I am still waiting for mine to come back from repair). There is a new app release vastly improving home screen widget functionality on the phone. Hopefully Samsung's heart rate complication will start to work as well (another user reported it working again -- though it's possible he did not update S Health yet.

►Adjust border width + background color for each cloud
    ►Border width may be 0
►Background color can be all transparent (no bubble)
►Works with free / paid packs
    ►Works with icon pack masks

    *Known issues
►Icon pack previews may take a long time to update in the app list
►Masks are not applied in the app list, only when added to cloud
►App may slow down if you switch icon packs too quickly: exit configuration screen, and kill Bubble Cloud in recent app list if you don't want to wait for the update to happen

This is a big addition to the app, please reward my efforts with a ★★★★★ rating if you like it! Thank you :)

    Mixed content Bubble Cloud Widgets

On popular demand, starting with beta version 1.49 → you can have different kinds of bubbles in one cloud:
    g93tSr5.png

Here is how to achieve this:
    1. I created an App Bubble Cloud with the 4 apps
    2. I created a Contact Bubble Cloud with the 4 people
    3. I deleted the Contact widget (long press + drag to top in most launchers)
    4. BCW prompted me if I want to:
      • Delete the bubbles too (NO!)
      • Keep the bubbles as orphans to be added to a cloud later (still works)
      • Merge them into one of the listed widgets ◄◄◄ This is what I chose

App Drawer mode animation with compatible watch faces

Here is how app-opening animation works in Bubble Cloud Launcher:
    1. when you tap an icon, the associated activity is called, and at the same time the zoom-in animation is started
    2. when the app gets fully loaded, a quick cross-fade transition reveals the app
When Bubble Cloud Launcher is used in watch-face mode, my app gets notified as soon as the running app appears on the screen (the watch face receives a visible=false call back). When used in app-drawer mode, my app no longer has access to this information, so the zoom-in animation needs to happen for the longest time to make sure the app in the background is fully loaded: http://youtu.be/Daa2hsanBhY?t=7m12s

Starting with version 2.10 app opening animation will work with compatible watch faces (if a watch face is not compatible, the starting animation will always last 4 seconds, no matter how quickly the app opens in the background) and Bubble Cloud Launcher will give you a reminder following the first animation.

So what are compatible watch faces?
I am currently in the talks with Facer dev Fodawim, so hopefully all your Facer creations will become compatible, but you can ask your favorite watch face dev to include the following two lines in their watchface:

in the public class Engine extends CanvasWatchFaceService.Engine definition:
    PHP:
    final private Intent bcIntent=new Intent("dynalogix.bubblecloud.WATCHFACE_HIDDEN");

    in the onVisibilityChanged(boolean visible) callback:
    PHP:
    if(!visible) sendBroadcast(bcIntent);
