WILL Honor 8x work in Canada ?

My friend bought Honor 8X in India and he went to canada last week and observed non of the local SIM purchased in Canada are working.
I tried looking for some answers in other forums and couldn't get anything conclusive. Hence, as always ended up here to get some answers.
The model is JSN-L42 IN Honor 8X.

For What It's Worth...
I have a JSN-L23 and a Rogers Pay-as-you-go SIM and it works fine in Toronto.
