As far as I see at least it's good to flash a custom rom. Otherwise you should convert dat to img and flash the rom in bootloader and then adb root and chmod correct permissions per file or folder.
You can also flash an update. You don't need to decrypt to flash it.
If you want to back up the encrypted data partition you can do it in rom. You can use dd if of command and keep the backup to your PC.

After doing a format and flash the system, you can restore the backup same way in TWRP, since after format TWRP can access data before first boot.

F2fs is useless, but it's default.
Mtp works fine. Only adb sideload bugs a bit.

Anyone try unbricking a phone with twrp 3.3.0? It says you can reboot to emergency download mode to unbrick.

Can someone please confirm if you are able flash this TWRP on the regular P20 (eml-09)?

Ok so like a massive child looking over a fence at android PIE from the Oreo universe (with everything working lol)

I'm now on PIE and can already see i'm going to regret this, but with a little wry smile on my face i'm going to give PIE a decent shot.

Lot of mixed responses and questions on here and not much clarity.

Can i just ask the TWRP in this thread.

Does it work on PIE? If so do i need a special firmware / version in order to get it to function?

I'm on L29 c432 9.0.0.195

It's currently not rooted, just stock PIE with the bootloader unlocked, OEM Status is switchable and is ON.

Can i use this TWRP?

EDIT: Yes i can
