A lot of users have troubles with rooting Zenfone 5.I've tested on the newest Kitkat, and it works properly, i didnt noticed any issues ( freezes, camera bugs )., but it install also custom recovery. There is one thread how to root Zenfone 5, but it doesnt work on Kitkat, ('out of memory error)...
