Second that as I'm on Telstra as well and I've had the timer success twice now, so no reason it should not work for you. Just do the full stock restore and make sure your connected to network / wifi when setting up, you should then be good to go after a week. Kies is a good option as you know it...

Hey mate, All good, smooth sailing and everything works including Bixby, VR and Android Pay just to mention a few things off the top of my head. Can't think of any issues apart from losing root once but that was resolved with the latest update. :)

Hey mate, it's happened to me once so just download Magisk again via Magisk Manager and then go into recovery and flash the zip again. Root will then be all good.

That's totally fine if your using stock firmware in Odin - that will not trip Knox and void warranty so all good there.
