It might not work because there is no smart cover option whatsoever in settings. At least I have not found any. Try using some smart cover app from Play Store.

Looks OK. After that have you enabled Double tap from Settings –> Smart Assistance –> Motion Control? This feature might not be available though on al Huawei/Honor devices, even after root and modification.
