You might find that FF downloaded the file ok but didn't rename it properly. Verify that the md5 check sum of the .bin file is the same as the .img file.

I had no troubles downloading the .img file from https://dl.twrp.me/oneplus3/

Wipe>Advanced wipe> select System and tap on Partition options.

I'm also on 201221 and I have absolutely no issues with either DnD or airplane mode. Both work as expected.

You don't have to do a clean install each time. You just have to flash the rom, Gapps, and Magisk (if you're using these last two).

I had no issues with Play Services on 201215 and Nik Gapps. I suggest you do a clean install.

I've been using this rom for a while. I haven't come across any bugs (based on the way I use the phone) but I do find that at times the phone doesn't go to sleep and when this happens, it's a kernel wake lock (sensor_SMD) that is keeping it awake. See the screenshots from Better Battery Stats...
