I double checked that i have 5.5.602943 AA (5.5.602944 isn't even available to me probably due to my device using older 32bit chip, they seem to release updates slower for 32bit chips) and the module also isn't working. I get the default "SMS" pop-up while moving. Just a FYI

Well obviously any background with white parts are gonna be problematic cause the text & white parts of icons will blend into the background. Just no avoiding that. I doubt there's much you can do (other than your idea of dimming the brightness of the background) and I don't expect you to do...

i'm sure you have "usb debugging" on in android developer settings and phone in "data transfer" mode not just "charging" but when you typed "su" in the adb shell, did you see a root access prompt on your phone? if you didn't notice it and authorize it, that might be the prob.

This might have worked for you however I had already figured out the new way to enable developer options on my own (based on the same way you enable developer settings in android) and still the option for new ui is not present in settings. I really believe all this is truly based on Google's...

try typing: adb shell then at the adb prompt, type: su then you might get a prompt on your phone. after that, try typing the sqlite commands again.

The only thing I can figure is so they don't get bombarded with bug reports. Start with small group of devices that they more or less know well since they're factory HU's that were probably certified by Google to run AA. Then when they get enough data back on how the new UI runs and fix bugs...
