I don't know much about programming and stuff but there has to be a way to find out what the marshmallow 6.0.1 update does to XT1521's base-band to enable volte.... what changes it makes for volte feature... If only we could find that out... probably we could do the same with other variants...

Unlocking the GSM capabilities on this handset would require a miracle at this point, i don't know whether this device even has any GSM bands at all....? This is not one of those GSM unlocked handset Verizon is always blabbing about... They must have suffered quite a loss after what happened...

From the looks of it.... After inserting a non verizon sim if it's asking for an unlock code then it can be purchased from eBay... The code may unlock only gsm bands for tmo and att..... I don't think calls will work though unless device gets activated by verizon itself....
