I finally found some time this morning. I was already unlocked... So all I did was the unlock-critical... All went well. But because I has twrp installed it keep bootlooping into twrp screen... I held vol down + power it booted into bootloader then did full flash-all and then proceeded to set...

See posts above ∆∆ ... There must be something with the stock boot causing it wheras custom kernel is good. Simply, Fastboot boot TWRP img, then in twrp flashed flash kernel + TWRP.zip + magisk 15.1 (one I used) all at same time. Now my TWRP touch works whichever way I boot to recovery... Good...

Only way I have touch is thru adb reboot recovery. Any other way in - bootloader, TB, pwr/up I lose TWRP touch. I'm on 8.1, stock kernel, magisk. Hope this helps. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

Sorry, yes magisk manager... I didn't try magisk uninstaller. I did fastboot installed TWRP and then it's zip several times, all unresponsive. In back of my mind I keep thinking "critical unlock" haha, I appreciate your thoughts. Guess I'll give things more time to develop. Thank you drewski_1...
