Sorry, but WL1285 has no reference in the TI database. the Wilink 7 showing here is just WL1281/WL1283 chips.... How do you know whether WL1285 is not a custom made chip from TI to Moto.... and the validity to the iFixit's data can be questioned also..

Well the working of the controls is strictly dependent on the interface chip used.... in that case, one particular control might not be completely useful into another phone.. Hence the new days headphones have minimalistic controls only.... and they do mention which phones it can be used...
