Post [GUIDE] Installing Windows 8 Preview on the HTC Shift

There is no need to do anything like that on the Shift. The guide includes all the information you need to get Metro apps working (including running the Shift at 1152*864 to use Metro apps). Hi, your going to have to give a little more information than that before anyone can really help you...

Post [GUIDE] Installing Windows 8 Preview on the HTC Shift

Hmmm, the Tilt is an ARM based HTC Kaiser, the Shift is a much bigger x86 based UMPC (with a cut down HTC Kaiser effectively shoved in to look after the ARM Windows Mobile side of the device ;)). As this is running normal x86 Windows 8 I would not expect to see your old Tilt getting much love...

Post [GUIDE] Installing Windows 8 Preview on the HTC Shift

Thanks, added that link to the guide, HTC's site seemed to be up and down all weekend but the link you posted seems to work now so lets go with it :). John

Post [GUIDE] Installing Windows 8 Preview on the HTC Shift

That sounds like a bad stick to be honest :(. The blue squares are replaced with the install menu after just a few minutes. This is all well before anything is messing with the Shift's HDD or hardware ;). Try reformatting it and having another go. It can't hurt.

Post [GUIDE] Installing Windows 8 Preview on the HTC Shift

Are you going for a totally clean install as per the guide? Is your USB stick all setup and bootable? Assuming you are getting into the Windows setup booting off of the USB stick is it the part where you select the install disk that seems to show no HDD? If it it what was installed on your...

Post [GUIDE] Installing Windows 8 Preview on the HTC Shift

Hi, All the needed drivers are linked off the guide but as the HTC site seems to be up and down today :o I have now added mirrors to all the files (uploaded them to my server). Checked and all the mirror links seem to be working fine :). The best way to try Windows 8 on the Shift is actually...

Post [GUIDE] Installing Windows 8 Preview on the HTC Shift

SmartScreen by any chance? If your getting the green messages the chances are you Ethernet connection is not working (is it USB, does Windows 8 ship with the driver for whatever chip it uses?). Below is a copy/paste from a comment I made on the guide concerning SmartScreen issues.

Post [Q] Windows 8 Developer Preview in HTC Shift

Thanks :), That is the same driver I used. The driver is also good if want to run Metro or the desktop at 1152*864 (so all the Metro apps that need a minimum of 1024*768 will run).

Post [Q] Windows 8 Developer Preview in HTC Shift

I posted a guide I wrote up in the Shift Development forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17602535 The guide includes links to all the drivers I have used and the process I followed to get Windows 8 running on the Shift from a totally clean install. As with camargomaia's...

Post How many users would be interested in Android

Hiya, Thanks for that, I am not worried if it is a monster patch/hack set, I am pretty fluent building up and hacking about Linux kernels (I do a lot of ARM embedded Linux work). It's just that I hate reinventing the wheel so if someone has done all the hard work it seems wrong to just leave it...

Post How many users would be interested in Android

Hi, I realise this is rather a dead thread but does anyone have a link to the patch set of GIT tree that the 2.6.29 kernel mentioned in the quoted post was built from? Very interested in taking a look to see if I can get an OpenEmbedded/Angstrom setup going on the device. Obviously a working...

Post [Q] Lack of recognition memory card after installing wp7

In simple terms you can't. One of the reasons most WinPhone 7 manufactures hid there SD cards deep inside the units was because MS have some very specific requirements for the performance and specification of SD(HC) cards that the OS will use to combine with the on device NAND storage. This...

    Post Push Mail Password ANNOYING!

The PIN requirements are set on the server side (i.e. Exchange) so you need to have your IT guys look there. It's easy enough to setup. Your 'blow away' device settings are also defined there. We run about 600 WinMo devices with Direct Push on our private APN and have the password timeout set...
