Running 1.6.1 with stock kernel. Absolutely no screen flicker, ZERO force closes, restarts, and GPS has worked 100% of the time for me since flashing two weeks ago. Maybe it's a hardware issue, or other issue on your end, if you are continually experiencing the same problems after several flashes.

I would install something like BetteryBatteryStats to find out. I'd wager if your phone is getting warm, something is running. If the screen is off, then that process will probably keep the phone from sleeping, so check the wakelocks.

It's been beautiful for me so far. 1h 59m screen on time, 40 minutes streaming Pandora on 4G, 18 minutes uploading stuff to my FTP over 4G, (just listing these as screen off battery hogs), 23.5 hours total off charger and I'm at 30%.
