I actually haven't done anything, mine never had it. I'm from Brazil tho, maybe my carrier don't put it on or made any kind of modification to remove it.

I'm also using MX Player and I could always watch the videos I wanted but I don't watch videos too often. I'm testing VLC Player now, I always used it on my desktop and wanted to try it on my phone. Didn't had a chance to use it much so I still don't have a full opinion about it.

There is mine. I like to keep it as simple as possible. Right on right side of GMail icon I have a group of all my instant message apps (GTalk, WhatsApp, Facebook messenger, Google+ Messenger and SMS) and on the second group I have Phone and People.
