I don't want to seem rude, but why did it become close sourced? I mean the team has reduced, but that doesn't matter that there aren't people who would like to take a look at the code for a review...

Why not? I mean it breaks TWRP rules because it's closed source, if I understand correctly, but does that break any XDA rule?
