These are very stiff when brand new but softens up well over time.

You will if you're using <150 Ohms headphones as the amp isn't strong. Any in-ears/earbuds or IEM's won't need a dedicated player. A dedicated player like the X5 will definitely give a cleaner sound but you don't have to worry about getting horrible sound with the S8. The S8 may feel bass heavy...

SD835+Shure SE846's sound amazing listening to FLACs and 320kbps MP3s on the default Samsung Music Player. It's not as bassy compared to my ExynosS6E, the highs are crystal clear, and the sound stage is very wide. There is zero hissing with UHQ upscaler turned on.

Did you ever get an email about it getting shipped+tracking number? I submitted mines on the 19th and was approved on the 21st. Samsung Promotions websites says my gift has been sent on the 22nd but I never got an email about it :(
