Maybe as a last resort but LinearEquation's solution was ****FAR*** easier than a clean reset.

So I think the problem was that I wasn't in 'root view mode' (whatever it's called in the settings) of EStrongs. I logged into adb shell and found the folder you were referring to and deleted the folders after uninstalling and now they install fine. Thanks so much for your help!

Thanks for your reply LinearEquation. I only had two folders. One for Titanium backup, and another nested data folder (inside data) for an app 'ChefTap'. I deleted both folders for the apps, but I still cant update chrome.

I installed cyanogenmod 11 on my kindle fire hd 8.9 and everything was working fine. However, lately I'm getting the message: "insufficient storage available" when I try and update some apps. The thing is that it doesn't happen with all apps. It seems to happen with Chrome, Titanium Backup...

I don't either. You can use the 'fix permissions' feature of ROM Manager even if you don't use CWM recovery.

What worked for me is to use Rom Manager and 'fix permissions'.
