Try with different bands from your country or another country with the same frequencies. Pull the batery out for a few seconds. Use the latest version of the standard app (not defy parts). Regards,

Hehe, and wait to see CM11. KitKat was redesigned to work with 512mb devices, as our defy. I tried the alpha version and it leaves 275mb free.

If you are going to flash gapps, delete first some ringtones and fonts. And look for 11-16 gapps core.
