I had the very same thing happen to me. Turned out the phone I received was a Verizon phone. I contacted swappa and was able to return the phone and get a real unlocked phone. It was a hassle but at least I got the phone I wanted in the end.

I've already encrypted the phone and set it to require a pattern at boot and to unlock the phone. What I would like to know is if I could require a password during boot and then only require a pattern to unlock the phone.
