Plan on buying direct from Google for the first time. If I port to a U.S. carrier, will I rely upon them for updates and not get them when Google releases them? Can the carrier, and will they likely, lock the bootloader?

God, I hope you're right. This device has sucked much of my love for Android out of me. I feel like I'm on an iPhone. I don't think I'd root without twrp. I wouldn't want to be away from my pc and not be able to flash a backup if my phone wigs out.
