Try uninstalling Lies using an uninstaller app like Revo. This will help make sure you have all references wiped from your computer. Reboot your computer then reinstall Kies. Do you have your tablet set on "USB debugging"? The other remote possibility is a bad cord. I am running Win 8 64...

This might seem like a dumb question since you say you have flashed ROMs before: are you doing a "clean" install? I also will wipe cache and dalvic cache AFTER each install. I only have "bricked" a device one time and that is when I tried short cuts. I also ALWAYS follow the developers...

"Upgraded" from the original Galaxy Tab 10.1. I did the OTA update to JB, unlocked bootloader and rooted. No problems. Much faster than my Samsung. Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using xda premium

Success!! Followed instructions for rooting VTAB EXACTLY and it rooted the first time. I am running Win7 x64. Thanks so much for all of your hard work.
