I got it fixed. If anyone is having the same issue I was the following fixed it for me. I changed the twrp I was using to this one: https://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=29189 Afterwords I ran the zip again, the update successfully installed, and I was back on stock EMUI8.

Thanks the "~#" was included when I copy pasted from my terminal window but not my cat output. Do I have to change the commands to "--update_package=/external_sdcard/" or leave it as is when moving the files to the micro-sd card?
