Yes it will work for that, Ive done it myself, and your correct, no need to flash bootloaders.

Look on your SD card for a folder named "backup", in there should be a backup of your /efs folder.

CM updater cannot seem to download the latest nightly, is anyone else having this type of issue? I am on 10-2 right now, trying to download 10-3. Thanks for any info :)

Working OK here. 10-2 using stock kernel.

Because you are changing the partition layout you have to flash it twice, first time will give the warning message, second flash will install.

It was 9-26 the new partition was brought back, anything from that release forward will wipe. http://changelog.bbqdroid.org/#captivatemtd/cm10/1348646446

Its normal for it to go to recovery the first boot after flashing so data and cache can be wiped, if your power button is not working just pull battery, put back in, and hold volume up + down while plugging in usb to put back in download mode and maybe try flashing a different package such as...
