Yes, you are right. The record icon never appeared in google dialer... ...but after dialing in google dialer and pressing call, the oneplus5 stock dialer started the call and the icon appeared.

Enable Call Recording.apk from mod section, enabled that function in Google Dialer. After installing and granting supersu to it, a "tape" icon appeared on Google Dialer.

It's the same for me. For some reason, interface has changed look and no call recording logo in google dialer.
