Post Magisk General Support / Discussion

Since two years ago I have LG V20 H990DS. Oreo stock ROM rooted with Magisk 20.4 and latest Magisk Manager. TWRP also installed. Today I switched to Magisk beta update channel and decided to flash latest Magisk beta 21.2. After reboot the result was crash dump. No way to boot to TWRP. Attempting...

Post Magisk 20.2 Kills LG V20 (All variants) Boot partition. Reverting to 20.1 fixes issue

It is easy. Just check the date and time files are created. Then identify the file that has a time stamp close to the time you updated Magisk to 20.2. That particular file is the right backup.

Thank you for doing that! You may add that issue affected a variety of LG models with varieties of ROMs (at least I've spotted LG-G5, LG-G6, LG-V20-all variants) and maybe some other brands also. There at least 5 threads in the forum - in LG sub-forums and in Magisk sub-forum. I hope the...

No, no, no! The "normal" procedure is just to flash boot.img from Magisk backup and then reboot. This should work if you just updated Magisk 20.1 to 20.2 and stuck in fastboot. But you already did some wrong things (uninastalled Magisk, intalled it again, etc.). So now you should choose the...

I think you did wrong performing first 3 bullets above. Yes, I know and I understand how terrible is the feeling when your phone stuck in fastboot. I was in the same situation. But managed to keep calm, read the forums and performed any actions only after careful study. The right reaction of the...

No, it is not possible to unzip from TWRP. I've connected the phone to my PC, transferred .gz file, unziped it, and transferred back the unziped boot.img to phone (in particular to the MicroSD card). Then flashed it to boot partition using TWRP. EDIT: See the above post by solo2racer. It is...

Post warning dont upgrade new version of magisk 20.2

If you had TWRP installed you shall not try to install it again. TWRP is very stable and protected, so it survived the buggy Magisk update. Just do the following: 1. Power-off the phone. That is the beauty of our V20s - you can do this even when stuck in fastboot screen, just remove the battery...

In fact I did the same :) I didn't menioned all the stuff with connecting to PC, copying files to PC, extracting archives and copying back to the phone the boot.img file for subsequent flashing via TWRP. This is because I know the forum members here are experienced guys :) The lesson learned...

Fortunately there is even more easy way to recover. :D My H990DS has been also affected by Magisk update. Luckily I discovered that Magisk itself makes a backup of the boot image during update from previous Magisk version. It is located in the /data/magisk_backup_<very long sequence of...
