That addresses installation, thanks. But not the question of necessity.

So, I'm late to this party. How do I switch from last johnwu canary build to the alpha builds? And do I even need to if nothing is broken with the canary build for me?

If you're referring to your screen getting resized all the time, setting the display to always run at 60hz helped when I had my 1915

    Post [ROM][STOCK][FASTBOOT][OP7P] Stock Fastboot ROMs for OnePlus 7 Pro/ 7 Pro 5G

I've got a TMO OP7P that I converted to INternational. All was fine on Android 10, but after upgrading to international Android 11, I had crazy screen issues when it would sleep/wake/switch to and from 60hz and 90hz refresh rates. Putting it back on the TMO software seems to have helped. YMMV

More you just wait for OnePlus to get back to you. They will email you a file specific to your phone, and you'll use fastboot to first send that file, then to OEM unlock. Now is a good time to start copying any data you want to keep to a PC, as the unlock process will wipe your phone.

That's a carrier unlock, which means you can use it on a different cell provider's network.. It is not a bootloader unlock. My Spanish is very bad, but I will try to help. You need to request a bootloader unlock from OnePlus using this page .. https://www.oneplus.com/unlock_token

Unlock it first. Then get your unlock token from OnePlus and unlock the bootloader. Then, flash international if you're wanting that

Post [RECOVERY][3.4.0-10][U][guacamole]Official/Unofficial TWRP recovery for OnePlus 7 Pro

A decrypted phone can be read from a PC without entering the screen unlock. Potentially dangerous, yes. Highly likely to happen, no. Also incredibly improbable that someone would attempt to boot to twrp on a found phone. That seems even more unlikely than someone plugging the phone in to read...

I absolutely spaced that I'm also on OB9 LOL Forgot entirely that I installed it, but there's no reason it shouldn't also be working fine on OB8
