I have exactly the same issue. Came of LineageOS 16 Optimized where all hardware buttons worked fine. Now, after a completely clean install of the latest nightly build I also lost the hardware back button. Should I maybe flash an earlier build?

Odin I had the same Odin experiences as you did. But since using 3.1.0.6 I haven't had a problem, regardless the rom version or other flashable files.. It's listed as the Samsung edition and that seems to be true.
