A possible solution to the issue with messages for EU users would be available soon as a beta version:

Facebook broke messages on touch.facebook.com (used in Maki) for users in Europe (and some users from different parts of the world). Unfortunately, I can't fix it, so I recommend you to use Messenger or Messenger Lite until they will fix this issue...

Hello! I've checked your issue. It's not, actually, a problem - you can swipe that bottom sheet selector up and it will open normally. Or you can make a window with Maki a little bit bigger. See attached screenshots, please. Thank you for your report.
