    I have noticed similar behavior even on 9.5.4 stock rom. Brightness will set itself to a very low value without any provocation. Only occurs in low light conditions for me.

    The only way I got this to work is to do the root procedure from a fresh windows xp vmware virtual machine. All attempts to do this from windows 7, virtual or otherwise, have resulted in the OS automatically installing ghetto drivers that keep coming back.
