How easy will it be to root if I use the unrooted RUU and update to 5.0.1?

I just ran into a bug. The screen kept flashing and eventually you couldn't see anything on the home screen. And when I tried to turn it off you couldn't see any of the buttons, but you could still press them. Has anybody else had this problem? I'm using the latest version by the way.

Do you need to do a complete flash for 4.2?

I thought that was only for fixing emoji. That's why I never bothered to flash it. Thanks Wait, never mind this is just the opposite of what I had.
