It doesn't actually MAKE your screen 4k as the display only supports 2k. The device renders everything in 4k and then outputs it on the display just like what Retina Displays or Nvidia DSR (Dynamic Super Resolution) does. Just in case you want to actually make sure everything is running in 4k...

Its Smallest width = 1080 / (dpi / 160) i.e. 289 = 1080/(597/160)

Note 2 was not 1080p, set ur phone to 289 and voila its done.

Every 1080p device can go to a lowest of 597 max width (i.e. 289 dpi). Go beyond this and the phone starts behaving like a tablet, every UI becomes tablet-ish. Try it. Nothing would break, dont worry.

Why is it that on my Oneplus 3T I have to increase dpi to increase the real-estate and on the Mi Max 2 i have to decrease the dpi to increase the real-estate. This just is against all I theoretically know about DPI, screen resolutions and pixel density.
