I run the CM 10.1 nightlies, and only clear my cache and my Dalvik cache before each flash. My apps are not affected by the frequent updates. It's only when a version change occurs that I have to fully wipe and reinstall everything.

Amazon.com isn't bad either, if you keep a close eye on the used listings. I got mine for $200 off Craigslist.

I haven't had any problems applying or using the new Gapps package since it's release. I don't even reboot between applying the new CM10 nightly and applying the Gapps. Only after both have been flashed do I do a restart.
