Yes. I don't believe you can downgrade the radio at this time. And for sure not easily.

Google Talk works fine for me. Maybe reflash the ROM? or use Meebo or some other substitute. You might even try finding a gtalk apk and go into recovery and pull your malfunctioning apk and push the working one.

You haven't needed to rename new ROMs to update.zip for quite a while. In Recovery, just select install zip from SD then pick the zip you want. The only benefit of renaming is it allows you to select install update.zip in recovery. It's nice not renaming them, as then you can keep several ROMs...

Restore the nandroid backup you (hopefully) made before beginning this quest. Barring that, install Sky Raider or CM6 or one of the new variants of the leaked 2.2 ROM and see if one of them fits your needs. Edit: and before you switch, you might reflash the ROM or make sure one of your apps...
