Yeah you should be able to dirty flash the latest version. But as usual if it doesn't work be prepared to do a clean install ;) black screen could be many things, it's been doing that for some time on the TF101 for some recent games it's mostly if they use something that the binary graphic...

I can't reproduce that on the TF300T, it shouldn't be different on the TF700T. Try wiping dalvik-cache from the recovery and / or reflashing clean If it still crashes, post a logcat.

Difficult to say as they don't really mention what they are testing Could be mostly depending on the android version, I don't think they run the same tests. selinux & certain encryption levels needs to be enforced starting with certain android versions and such for example. so could be that.
