I'm curious. Has anyone rooted and tried the Gear VR? Any issues? I love having root but I bought this overly expensive phone mostly for the VR capabilities so if root messes with that it wont be worth it for me. Thanks in advance for any insight.

Trinus works great once you us the cardboard for gear vr app to switch over. You can even use a 90 degree usb to get usb pass through to work. You can also try with stream theater which allows for head tracking using the gear's motion sensors. I made a tutorial on how to do this on my blog but...

This works great on the gear vr once you use the cardboard for gear app to allow you to run google cardboard. I can verify that ePSXe and PPSSPP work when switching to vr mode!

Not a native android version but the next best thing I know you asked about how to do this with the native android app. I don't think that will ever be possible but with trinus or stream theater you can do it. It works pretty good too after some tweaks. I made a tutorial that might help but...
