Edit: Sony actually limits Camera2 API for 3rd party apps, which seems to be the reason for 8MP for apps using Camera2 API.

I might be wrong here, but Sont isnt allowing any third party app access to anything higher than 8MP, try any other camera app and will only allow you to take picture at 8MP. Sony's own camera app does show up to 19MP. This sucks for app such as Snapchat if you take pictures with rear camera...

Most probably cause /system has about A few MB to short after supersu is installed. You will need to delete a few gapps from /system/app or/and /system/priv-app before flashing xposed zip to free up some space. I myself deleted Wallet from priv-app and it was enough :)

One way to try this is to use the obvious Google Camera which has no setting to save picture to SD card, download google camera, enable it on the module, reboot and take some pictures and see if it saves to external sd card.
