Wouldn't adb not detect the device if it was a driver issue? I installed the Universal ADB driver but it didn't work so I used the Samsung drivers (outlined here) and it worked, except for the fastboot commands.

adb devices detects my phone but when I boot into fastboot, fastboot devices doesn't return an output. Also, is fastboot really just the alien with "Fastboot Mode" written underneath it?
