LeeDroid It's there any possibility of project treble coming into play on the updated HTC devices or did they opt for a more traditional update? Treble would be cool but I'm guessing it may have been too much work for HTC to go to the effort on old devices.

When checked it adds an on screen floating menu button in legacy apps that don't already provide an on screen menu button. It is essentially an option for backwards compatibility with apps designed for the era of Android devices they had physical menu buttons.

I suspect you may be right, the issue is I haven't installed anything recently. I've now put magisk in core only mode and revoked root permission for everything but adaway. The scanner is now working again. I'm gonna give it a day or two like this, if I have no problems I'll start enabling...
