Titanium backup can mess up your rom if you restore system apps. So better avoid it. BTW I always use Rom Toolbox to backup and restore USER apps. Never had any trouble doing so.

you will lose contacts and sms if you factory reset. Otherwise NO. Better create a backup before flashing,:)

One more question, do they have support for ART like the PA ones? I have never tried 4.4 rom before. And any increse in performance due to ART?

Flash RAW kernel, reboot to recovery and then flash the rom with full wipe.
