LTE+ is 5Ge. The 5Ge symbol is a marketing gimmick by AT&T in their ads and firmware and is nothing more than fast LTE.

The U1 firmware will allow wifi tethering. You are still at the mercy of any data limits from your carrier but tethering will work fine.

Try using a different tool to unzip.

It looks like you are trying to install a bootloader V2 firmware but the phone is already on 3. Grab a V3 firmware from fw.updato.com and see if that works. You can go up bootloader numbers but cannot go down.

That's a great idea with the laptop. Your best bet when going unlocked is to start fresh so that would be a bummer. I can confirm that you still get OTAs.
