If I understand well those people who already have gapps installed from the installer while it was working on the initial firmware will continue to have gapps working on the new firmware as well.

Anybody else confirm the above?

That's correct. This is what happened to me. Then I stupidly reset the phone. This is what he must mean. Cause you can't install it now at all

No, but I guess it will be back soon. But may be in another name, or comes with an altered method

If google blocked the mate 30 series that means whatever we do, it won't work as it needs to be whitelisted from Google. So only alternative will be to unlock the BL and change the name of the device...but even then not sure things would work out well. I'm not an expert on this field...so it's just my 2cents

The update was already installed, didn't have to do anything

TechTablets basically got scammed. That website he listed NEVER worked, was NEVER the real LZ play. his phones had already installed GMS via the REAL LZPlay.

He was cocky in the comments too -- when readers said "you debunked headlines!" he'd respond saying "yeah maybe those sites should research more."
