solved. The UI is sort of confusing because I needed to bring up another (native?) permissions manager in order to enable storage permissions. could be a security feature.. no idea.
either search for "permissions" inside settings, or reach it...
so this worked fine for the first few days- the bit where you get to tap on areas you want the focus to be on (and blur everything else)
usually the aperture circle appears and then you can slide up and down to adjust the f-stop to widen the area...

I guess it wouldn't make sense for RAW only on a smartphone. Are you able to save the jpg with filters applied i.e. neutral/standard/vivid/monochrome? Just wondering how close they made the camera options to a proper Lei...

yes it does. that's the only option- save both jpg and raw format. toggled off, then it's jpg only, obviously.
