So the AP file that's about 3gb that I downloaded to extract the boot.img do I just use Odin to patch the whole thing or do I do it via magisk manager? Sorry last thing I rooted was my galaxy s6 and it was much different. Yes, S6 was quite diff...

The last version of Magisk manager (7.1.2) lets you patch the entire AP section of the original ROM. The section is in .tar format so you shouldn't have problems.

It is possible to use Magisk (ver. 19.1) for getting root, but at he moment there aren't available custom recovery or cooked roms. I'm looking for them too!!
