You need to select EMMC instead of MTD (default) in the upload file settings.
I successfully made myself a battery mod on ICS that way. I used the framework-res.apk and systemUI file (Galaxy S2).
I have both the Galaxy S2 and the Nexus 4 and unless you really want for something new, an upgrade is not necessarily needed.
