Works for me, I just made changes to vendor ID to match my Nexus. Here's the modified instructions for Galaxy Nexus:
sudo apt-get install mtpfs
sudo mkdir /media/gnex
sudo chmod 775 /media/gnex
sudo mtpfs -o allow_other /media/gnex
