I would go for the first option: installing the bootloader zip via TWRP.

Just tested the 2908 Pie build and everything was pretty good and smooth except the fact that most of my apps doesn't appear at Google Play. That issue makes me imposible to use this ROM as daily driver. Hope to be fixed soon! 🤙🏽

I've had this ROM for five days and, by far, the battery is a bit lower than LOS 16. Otherwise, performance was really great.
