I would imagine that trusty old SuperSU would work. Personally, I'm happy with Magisk and haven't experienced the problems you are having. Good luck!
Can't find Magisk, even though the TWRP install didn't report any errors during install. Not sure what happened. You need to install the magisk manager apk manually. Once you do, and you open it, it should show that magisk is installed....
