I think you have it covered pretty well. The only step I would insert is to boot the device once before putting back the original recovery just to make sure. When all is done don't forget to cleanup the storage area.

Selecting recovery is for recovery images, boot is for boot images (aka kernels). If you are installing twrp, selecting recovery is correct.
